The Company
The Mad Poppet LLC was born on April 21, 2011. The initial intent was to offer a select few statues & busts from one of four genres: comic books, video games, tv & movies, and Japanese pop culture. We launched the website TheMadPoppet.com: Nerd Culture, Statues and Busts with that vision, in June 2011. After two months of product testing, we decided the market was too saturated and moved the website in a new direction.
Enter August, 2011, where the site was relaunched with a new look, feel, and theme that more closely aligned with the owner’s adoration of all things Japan. From this point forward we would be known as The Mad Poppet: Crazy about Japan. Here you will find Japan news, life reflection, a podcast and more!
The Owner
Dan Bough lives and works in Syracuse, NY. During the day he can be found in the offices of ShoreGroup Inc. as an appliance (Linux) and Network (Cisco) engineer developing monitoring tests for Cisco gear, troubleshooting LAMP (Linux, Apache, Mysql, Perl/PHP) issues, acting as high touch support for major customer accounts, creating and maintaining SOPs, and doing .. well.. anything that needs to get done. He currently holds the CCVP (CCNP Voice), CCDA, CCNA, and various specialized certifications for Data Storage Networking, and Cisco Voice Network Design.
During his off time, Dan runs The Mad Poppet LLC and maintains it’s website, http://www.themadpoppet.com. A self proclaimed Japanophile, the content of The Mad Poppet currently revolves around the idea of being ‘Crazy about Japan.’ Dan has also started working as a contractor, editing manga with a localization team (Four-leaf Clover) for Digital Manga, Inc. Their work can be found on eManga.com, the Amazon Kindle and Barnes & Noble NOOK.

A note from Dan
I’m looking to get experience with the Japanese language, media / content / Intellectual Property (IP) generation, translation, writing, editing and the like. I’m willing to do most things for next to nothing (and in some cases for nothing at all) as long as the task is mutually beneficial. I’d love to work with you on any of the following:
- Article / Blog Writing: Must be related to Japan, but not a specific aspect of Japan. Technology, Culture, Music, etc.
- Article Editing: Don’t have time to check your grammar, or just need someone to proof your work? I can help.
- Editing of translated Japanese material. I can’t translate (yet), but I can edit your translated material to make sure it makes sense. This can be anything from articles, blog posts, emails to customers, advertisements etc. Don’t send out something you’ve translated using Google. Let me help.
- Japanese product advertising for U.S. consumption. Have a product you want to sell in the United States, but don’t know how to market it. I can help.
- West Coast (U.S.) Japanese distributor? Want to start something on the East Coast? I’d love to help!
- Tumblr – Aggregate for most of The Mad Poppet’s social media channels.
- Twitter - The Mad Poppet on Twitter
- Facebook - The Mad Poppet on Facebook
- Youtube - The Mad Poppet on Youtube
- The Mad Poppet Podcast – A podcast on my thoughts of local and world news.
